Which Boiler Is Right for Your Home?
Choosing the right type of boiler depends on the size of your home, the number of bathrooms, your hot water demand, and your existing pipework. I'll always recommend what genuinely suits your property - not the most expensive option.
Combi Boiler
Best for: smaller homes and flats with one bathroom.
A combi boiler heats water on demand directly from the mains, with no need for a hot water cylinder or cold water tank. Compact, efficient, and ideal where space is tight. Most installations in NW10 flats and terraced houses are combi swaps.
System Boiler
Best for: medium and larger homes with two or more bathrooms.
A system boiler works with a hot water cylinder but no cold water tank in the loft. Delivers strong hot water flow to multiple taps and showers at once. A common choice for family homes in Wembley and Kingsbury.
Regular (Heat-only) Boilers
Best for: larger homes with traditional heating systems already in place.
A regular boiler keeps your existing hot water cylinder and cold water tank. Often the simplest option when replacing like-for-like in older Edwardian and Victorian properties around NW10 and NW6, where extensive pipework changes would be disruptive.

Building Regulations & Gas Safe Compliance
Every new boiler installation in England and Wales must be notified to Building Control under Part L of the Building Regulations. Using a Gas Safe registered engineer with the appropriate qualifications means this is handled automatically — you don't need to arrange anything separately.
As a Gas Safe registered engineer (Reg. No. 977311) qualified for Extension to Existing Heating System under Building Regulations, I notify your local authority on your behalf within 30 days of completion. You'll receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate for your records.
This certificate is essential when you come to sell your home — solicitors will ask for it during conveyancing. Many homeowners don't realise this until it's too late, so it's worth getting right from the start.
You can verify my Gas Safe registration at any time at gassaferegister.co.uk (registration number 977311).

How it works
1 - Initial Call
Call or WhatsApp with a few details about your current boiler, the size of your home, and what's prompting the change. I'll give you a rough indication of what's likely involved.
2 - Home Survey
A short visit to look at your existing system, take measurements, and discuss options. No pressure, no obligation. Usually takes 30-45 minutes.
3 - Written Quotation
You'll receive a clear, itemised written quote within 48 hours covering the boiler, parts, labour, system flush, controls, and any additional pipework. Valid for 30 days.
4 - Installation
Most straightforward boiler swaps are completed in one day. More complex installations (combi conversions, system upgrades) typically take two days. Your home is protected with dust sheets and floor protection throughout.
5 - Commissioning and Handover
Full system test, balance and commission. I'll walk you through how to use the new boiler and controls, and answer any questions. You'll leave with all paperwork: Gas Safety Certificate, Building Regs Compliance Certificate, manufacturer warranty registration, and a benchmark commissioning record.
6 - Aftercare
I'm only a phone call away if anything needs adjusting in the first few weeks. Annual service reminders sent the following year so your warranty stays valid.
FAQ
Q: How long does a boiler installation take?
A: A straightforward like-for-like combi swap is usually completed in a single day. Conversions (regular to combi, or system to combi) typically take two days due to additional pipework, removal of cylinders or tanks, and system flushing.
Q: Will my heating be off for long?
A: Most installations are arranged so you're without heat and hot water for less than 24 hours. For lengthier jobs in colder months, I can usually keep your existing system running until the new boiler is ready to commission.
Q: Do I need a new thermostat or controls?
A: New boilers must be installed with appropriate controls under Boiler Plus regulations. I'll advise on what's needed - usually a programmable thermostat, smart thermostat, weather compensation, or load compensation depending on the boiler.
Q: What boiler brand do you recommend?
A: No brand suits every home. I'll recommend what genuinely fits your property, budget, and hot water needs. Honest opinion, not a sales pitch.
Q: What warranty do I get?
A: Manufacturer warranties typically range from 2 to 10 years depending on brand and model. I'll register the warranty in your name on completion. My own workmanship guarantee covers the installation itself.
Q: Do you handle Building Regs and warranty registration?
A: Yes - both included as standard. You'll receive the Building Regulations Compliance Certificate and manufacturer warranty paperwork once the install is complete.
Q: Can I keep my existing radiators?
A: Usually yes, provided they're in good condition. A power flush during installation removes years of sludge and corrosion so your existing radiators work efficiently with the new boiler. Any radiators that have failed or are heavily corroded should be replaced at the same time.
Q: Do you offer finance?
A: Not directly. Many manufacturers and merchants offer finance options on the boiler itself — I can point you in the right direction.
